NOTICE OF RACE
LLANDUDNO SAILING CLUB
CLUB RACING - 2024 SEASON
Llandudno Sailing Club will be the Organising Authority for racing in Llandudno Bay during the season. A racing programme giving the details of the races, including dates and times, will be published on the website.
Events are governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing
The club website will detail any additional rules to be followed.
Racing is open to all full club members. Only fully paid up full or cadet members of the club are eligible to win club trophies. The sailing programme defines the specific eligibility criteria for specific series and trophies that will be run during the season, including the scoring arrangements for each series and the prizes that will be awarded. With the exception of class racing, handicaps will be used. The handicaps approved by the club committee for the season will be RYA Portsmouth Number List 2024, this can be downloaded from the RYA website. The Merlin Rocket PY number for 2024 can be found in the sailing instructions.
The sailing programme identifies the start time for each race. Sailors intending to participate in a race shall complete the signing on sheet and inform the race officer for that race no later than 15 minutes before the published start time in the racing programme.
The club Standard Sailing Instructions adopt the following rules of the RRS:
a. Rule 40.1 applies at all times whilst afloat.
b. Rule 26 applies.
Full club members do not need to enter for a race or series in advance, but shall sign on before participating in each race. The signing on sheet will contain specific statements that sailors:
a. agree to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Sailing Instructions, and
b. their boat is adequately insured, with cover of at least £3 million against third party claims.
Sailors are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure their equipment is in compliance with their class rules. For classes such as ILCA that do not have measurement certificates, sailors who “sign on” for a race shall be deemed to be confirming that their boats conform to class rules. All other boats competing in club racing shall have a valid measurement certificate issued under their relevant class association procedures.
a. The club will allow the use of replica ILCA sails and spars.
b. Boat are strongly recommended to carry an anchor and warp.

10.Courses for racing will be around the marks laid in the bay prior to the start of a race
11. The penalties for breaking a rule of Part 2 of RRS will apply.
12. Scoring will generally be in accordance with RRS Appendix A, except for the club championship in which the DNC score will be the highest number of boats in any one race +1. Sailors allocated to club duties (safety boat or race officer) during a series may claim score points equal to third place, providing the sailor completes at least one other race in that series.
13. Risk Statement
Rule 3 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in any of the events covered by this notice of race, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
a. They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
b. They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;
c. They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;
d. Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;
e. The provision of a race management team, patrol boats, umpires and other officials and volunteers by the organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
f. The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
g. It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety briefing held for the event.
14. Privacy Statement
The personal information you provide to the organising authority will be used to facilitate your participation in the events. If you have agreed to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the other rules that govern the event (the rules), the legal basis for processing that personal information is contract. If you are not bound by the rules, the legal basis for processing that personal information is legitimate interest. Your personal information will be stored and used in accordance with the organising authority’s privacy policy. When required by the rules, personal information may be shared with the RYA, your national authority and/or World Sailing. The results of the event and the outcome of any hearing or appeal may be published
